Governor-elect of Brasilia a long-time defender of the water cause

On the occasion of a recent visit to Brasilia, President Benedito Braga congratulated Senator Rodrigo Rollemberg for his election as Governor of Brasilia. An elected official in the Federal District of Brasilia (GDF) since 1994, Rodrigo Rollemberg has forged his reputation on integrity, local engagement and social responsibility. Representing the GDF at the National Congress since 2006 and elected Senator in 2011, Rodrigo Rollemberg is a distinguished politician defending the environmental sector in Brazil. He successively held the positions of Chair of the Senate Environment Commission, Member of the Sub-commission on Water and led a delegation of over 12 Brazilian parliamentarians to the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille in 2012.  An active member of the Commission on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), Senator Rollemberg voiced the priorities of the Congress on climate change, effective water management and other related sectors and took part in numerous preparatory sessions feeding into the negotiations process of Rio+20.  As Vice Chair of Globe Brazil, he reaffirmed his commitment to the SDG process beyond the Rio+20 and promoted the enactment of better environmental budgets and the inclusion of natural capital into government accounting procedures.  
In August 2013, he hosted the WWC Selection Committee for the 8th World Water Forum as Chair of the Senate Environment Commission and offered his support to the organization of the Forum in Brasilia.  
Rodrigo Rollemberg will be sworn in as Governor of Brasilia on 1 January 2015 for a 4-year term.
