Water is more than a resource; it is the lifeblood of our cities, communities, ecosystems and economies. As urbanization accelerates, climate-related hazards intensify, and the demand for equitable and sustainable services grows, cities and local governments find themselves at the frontline of both water risk and water resilience.
Recognizing this reality, a global collaborative initiative was launched by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and the World Water Council to unite leading stakeholders, foster peer learning across local governments, and highlight innovative and scalable solutions.
Today, the World Water Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new booklet that captures the key insights, lessons learned, and forward-looking perspectives from the CitiesWithWater webinar series.
About the CitiesWithWater Webinar Series
The CitiesWithWater webinar series, a partnership between the World Water Council and ICLEI, was designed to showcase how cities are addressing the triple challenge of:
Too Little – Tackling water scarcity and building resilience strategies
Too Much – Managing flooding and stormwater
Too Dirty – Advancing sanitation and wastewater innovations
Across the first three webinars, city leaders and practitioners shared innovative practices, practical experiences, and lessons learned from diverse urban contexts around the world.
The series brought together mayors, local officials, water professionals, and policymakers to explore how local action can drive global water resilience. It will culminate in a high-level roundtable discussion between local government leaders and international development organizations, focusing on the partnerships and financing mechanisms needed to strengthen urban water resilience.
A Booklet to Capture Knowledge and Inspire Action
The newly launched booklet synthesizes the most impactful contributions from the series. It highlights:
Real-world case studies and scalable solutions
Cross-cutting lessons on governance, finance, and innovation
Pathways for strengthening collaboration between local and international actors
Strategic recommendations to advance urban water resilience
By consolidating the knowledge shared throughout the series, the booklet aims to serve as both a practical reference and a call to action for cities, partners, and development institutions committed to sustainable water management.
