Review of the 2nd Dushanbe Conference

The 2nd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028 was held from 6 to 9 June 2022 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The World Water Council was involved in the preparation of this event.

In efforts for the UN water 2023 conference, being organised by the Government of Tajikistan, and the Government of the Netherlands, the discussions at the 2nd High Level International conference were focused on “Catalysing action and partnerships for water at the local, national, regional, and global levels.”

The objective was to examine how governments, multilateral and other international organisations, and regional and local actors could trigger joint action and partnerships in the field of water. With a view to contributing to the implementation of the water-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and in particular SDG 6.
The action also focuses on supporting the global response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The World Water Council, represented by Professor Ahmet Saatçi, member of the International Advisory Committee and the Council’s Bureau, actively participated in the preparation of this event and contributed to the final Declaration that will be forwarded to the United Nations Water Conference in New York in March 2023.

Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, also addressed a message to the participants that was projected during the plenary.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the World Water Council:

As a multi-stakeholder platform and with some 400 members from 150 countries, the Council is ready to contribute to making water a global priority at all levels and to promote concrete initiatives.”

Membership of the World Water Council is open to any organisation with an interest in water issues that accepts the missions and objectives of the World Water Council as defined in its Constitution and By-laws.
